Blow Painting

Creative Arts

2.5-4 years

Huff, puff, paint, make the paint move and dance across the paper. This blow painting technique encourages exploration, investigation and is sure to keep your child engaged and entertained.

Materials

  • Paper

  • Non-toxic watercolour paint, various colours

  • Drinking straws

  • Scissors

  • Baking tray (Optional)

Set-up

  1. Protect your workstation by covering with newspaper or garbage bags.

  2. Place your paper on a flat surface; a baking tray works well.

  3. Place small amounts of coloured paint onto your paper.

  4. Cut the straw in half, so your blowing action is more effective and closer to the paint.

Start painting

Let your child blow the paint around the paper in different directions. Watch as the colours mix and blend to create beautiful designs.

Just a reminder…this art project can get messy if children use too much paint. Be conservative with the droppings of paint.

Increase the fun

Try drawing a face at the centre of the paper and blowing the paint to make crazy colourful hair.

At Learning Jungle, we believe all children are capable, confident and full of potential. Co-learning empowers your child to take initiative. Encouraging child participation and engaging in open-ended, thought-provoking conversation throughout play is important for healthy child development.

Conversations with your child

  • What colours would you like to use?

  • Can you place some paint on the paper?

  • Try not to blow into the straw too hard/soft.

  • Try turning your tray around and blowing in different directions.

  • What colours did you make?

  • Can you try to make a pattern?
