Garden Art

2.5-4 years

Sticks, stones, rocks, and pinecones. Experience your child’s wonder in the moment as they collect and decorate natural materials sourced from the garden. This activity helps children to appreciate art and nature, while developing a range of physical and cognitive skills.

Natural Materials

  • Tree branch or twigs
  • Leaves
  • Rocks
  • Pinecones

Decorative Materials

  • Non-toxic paint and paintbrush
  • Glitter
  • Coloured pens
  • Dry pasta or rice (Optional)
  • Children’s glue

  • Encourage your child to collect as many natural items as they can find in the garden. Enjoy the process.
  • Ask your child to pick their favourite natural items and begin decorating them.
  • Encourage your child to experiment with a variety of natural and decorative materials.

Increase the fun

Why not make a magic wand and write some fun magic spells?

At Learning Jungle, we believe all children are capable, confident and full of potential. Co-learning empowers your child to take initiative. Encouraging child participation and engaging in open-ended, thought-provoking conversation throughout play is important for healthy child development.

Conversations with your child

  • Why did you choose those items?
  • Can you tell me what ‘nature’ means?
  • Do you know why the branches/leaves fall?
  • What does the branch/pinecone feel like?
  • What will you use to decorate your branch/pinecone?
