Salt Painting – Valentine’s Day
Creative Arts
2.5–4 years
Spread some love and colour. This creative activity helps your child develop pincer grip and hand-eye coordination. Once the artwork is complete, your child can share with a loved one on Valentine’s Day.
Materials
-
Paper (cardboard from cereal box)
-
PVA glue
-
Food coloring
- Table salt
-
Eye droppers
-
4 mini bowls
Instructions
-
Fill each small bowl with water and a few drops of food colouring and set aside.
-
Ask your child what they would like to draw. Then, using a pencil, have your child draw the design on the cardboard. Larger shapes work best for this activity.
3. Following the design, apply a generous amount of glue overtop of the pencil lines.
4. Pour salt over the glue. Shake off the excess.
5. Colour your art by taking the eye dropper tool and applying colour to all the salted areas of the painting.
6. Be sure to let the painting dry before hanging or placing upright.
At Learning Jungle, we believe all children are capable, confident and full of potential. Co-learning empowers your child to take initiative. Encouraging child participation and engaging in open-ended, thought-provoking conversation throughout play is important for healthy child development.
Conversations with your child
- What design do you want to make?
- What does salt taste like?
- What color do you like?
- What happens when we drop the colour on the salt?
- Who do you want to make it for?
